Part-Time Youth Organizer Intern
Reports to: Senior Youth Leader
Schedule: Must be able to commit to the full internship term of October 13, 2026-July 15, 2027. The regular schedule is Tuesday-Thursday, 9:00 AM–6:00 PM; however, hours may occasionally shift based on organizational priorities, program needs, and community events. This may include extended evening hours on Tuesdays or Thursdays (11:00 AM-8:00 PM) and occasional Friday or Saturday events. Advance notice will be provided whenever possible.
Who is this For: This opportunity is designed for young adults ages 18-25, with preference given to candidates who live in or have strong ties to Melrose and the South Bronx. We are especially interested in young people who are curious, community-minded, willing to learn, and interested in using their voice to make a difference in their neighborhood. Prior organizing experience is helpful but not required. We value lived experience, commitment, reliability, curiosity, and a willingness to develop new skills.
Compensation: $17 per hour, up to 25 hours per week. This is a paid, part-time internship running from October 13, 2026 through July 15, 2027.

The Youth Community Organizer Intern will support NQ’s community engagement work, helping move forward our Environmental Justice, Housing Justice, and Community Resiliency efforts while gaining hands-on experience across the organization. Through outreach, resident engagement, youth leadership, and community education, the intern will help connect residents to opportunities to take action on issues impacting their homes, neighborhood, and future.
- Conduct outreach to residents/community through canvassing, phone banking, events, meetings, and other engagement activities.
- Support resident/community education on affordable housing, the Melrose Urban Renewal Plan, environmental justice, climate resilience, food access, and other community priorities.
- Help facilitate workshops, community meetings, and youth engagement activities.
- Listen to and document resident concerns, priorities, and ideas and help connect them to NQ’s organizing and advocacy work.
- Support EJ campaigns, community education, and climate resilience initiatives.
- Assist with programming connected to NQ’s resilience hubs, gardens, green infrastructure, and other community-based projects.
- Support youth and resident participation in environmental justice activities.
- Help collect information, document activities, and prepare materials that demonstrate community impact.
- Create and distribute flyers, outreach materials, presentations, and social media content.
- Help tell the story of NQ’s work through photos, interviews, event documentation, and community stories.
- Support outreach campaigns and public education efforts.
- Help plan and execute NQ community events, workshops, campaigns, and youth activities.
- Provide day-to-day project and administrative support to help move team priorities forward.
- Collaborate with staff across programs, including Environmental Justice, Housing, Communications, and Operations.
- Take on defined projects that build practical skills while contributing to NQ’s organizational goals.
This is a learning-centered internship. Interns will participate in structured training and receive ongoing supervision and mentorship throughout the year.
The internship curriculum will introduce participants to:
- Community organizing and grassroots leadership
- South Bronx history, community development, and organizing traditions
- Affordable housing and the Melrose Urban Renewal Plan
- Environmental and climate justice
- Community resilience and food access
- Civic engagement, advocacy, and public speaking
- Resident engagement and facilitation
- Communications, storytelling, and digital outreach
- Event and project planning
- Professional skills, including time management, teamwork, problem-solving, and workplace communication
Interns will receive regular supervision, feedback, coaching, and opportunities to practice new skills, with increasing responsibility as they demonstrate readiness.
- Age 18-25.
- Interest in community organizing, environmental justice, housing, community development, public service, or social justice.
- Strong interest in learning and developing new skills.
- Reliable, organized, and able to follow through on assignments.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Willingness to develop public speaking and community outreach skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong familiarity with Melrose and/or the South Bronx.
- Experience with youth leadership, community engagement, organizing, or advocacy.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Experience with social media, Canva, photography, video, or other communications tools.

By the end of the internship, participants will have:

Housing Assistant (Entry Level)
Reports to: Housing and Resident Services, Director
Organization: Nos Quedamos / We Stay
Location: South Bronx (Hybrid / Community-Based)*
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary: $52,000
The Housing Assistant is a full-time entry-level position working directly under the Housing Director to support Nos Quedamos’ housing stabilization, asset management, and advocacy efforts. This role is central to day-to-day housing program operations and resident support across approximately 450 units, and is often the first point of contact for residents, applicants, and program participants.
The Housing Assistant provides direct services to residents and applicants, supports housing-related applications and compliance, assists with resident engagement and organizing, and ensures accurate documentation and reporting. This position is ideal for someone early in their career who is community-centered, highly organized, and committed to housing justice in the South Bronx.
Core responsibilities and a clear, resident-centered workflow focused on intake → support coordination → documentation → follow-up. Responsibilities are grouped below to reflect how the work happens day to day.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for residents and applicants seeking housing-related assistance
- Conduct intakes, housing assessments, and resident one-on-one meetings
- Assist residents with completing housing-related forms and applications
- Verify documentation related to income, assets, background, and eligibility
- Support lease renewals, recertifications, housing voucher applications, and compliance paperwork
- Monitor and document resident progress toward housing stabilization goals
- Respond to tenant inquiries, concerns, and complaints related to housing
- Facilitate communication between residents, property management, and NQ leadership
- Assist with scheduling and tracking maintenance requests and repairs
- Support the implementation of housing policies and procedures
- Interface regularly with building and property management teams
- Support resident engagement and organizing across approximately 450 units
- Assist with outreach, food distributions, community events, and workshops
- Promote upcoming programs, trainings, and events to residents
- Support the establishment and ongoing coordination of a Resident Advisory Committee
- Contribute to resident communications, including newsletters and event reminders
- Answer phones, field incoming calls, and route issues to the appropriate housing team member
- Schedule resident appointments and provide follow-up
- Create, update, and maintain accurate client and tenant files
- Enter data into internal databases and tracking systems
- Document all resident interactions and services provided
- Assist with reports and documentation for management, funders, and compliance
- Connect residents to external resources, including financial assistance and social services
- Assist with financial empowerment referrals and programming as needed
- Coordinate with service providers and partners to support resident needs
- Clearly articulate the mission, values, and objectives of Nos Quedamos to residents and partners
- Provide general support to visitors and program clients

Must be able to work Monday-Friday. Must be able to work in person at our Bronx Headquarters with a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends and travel. *The hybrid work schedule is subject to change based on organizational needs.
